What is Naturopathy and Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy applies nutritional science and clinical experience to support optimal health, by drawing upon the natural healing power of food, and adapting lifestyle habits to support the mind and body.

The food choices we make can either drive disease, or support our body towards good health, as can our perception of stress.

Naturopathy promotes the body's self healing mechanism. A Naturopath uses natural therapies such as traditional Chinese medicine, iridology (study of the eyes), nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, and use of tissue salts, bach flower remedies and other natural methods to support the body and identify imbalances.

What can it support?

Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy can be used to help support a wide variety of health conditions, including the following:

Before your appointment I will send you a health questionnaire, and a diet diary to complete. Please send this back in advance.

Your initial appointment will be an hour and a half. We will spend the first hour gathering facts about you, and discussing in detail all areas of your health, lifestyle and history.

I will then work out a suitable plan to support your health issues, and discuss any recommendations for additional lab testing to look for root causes of imbalances. We will also use this time to discuss the inclusion of your Doctor in your plan if necessary.

We will look holistically at diet, lifestyle, stress, genetics etc. and try to identify any habits which could be a contributing factor.

I may recommend supplements to support you, and I will need to know about any drugs you are taking to make sure there are no interactions.

If you are planning a pregnancy it is really important for both partners to spend at least three months preparing the body for optimal health, as it takes three months for sperm and egg to form. It is vital to optimise the quality of the sperm and eggs in order improve chances of conceiving a healthy happy baby. There are various nutrition tests we can run to see if there are any imbalances that could be affecting your ability to conceive. It is highly advisable for both partners to have a consultation.

I normally recommend a gap of about 4 - 6 weeks between appointments to give you time to implement recommendations.

Additional Testing

I am registered with a several functional testing laboratories, and we can discuss which tests may be appropriate for you. This can be anything from food intolerance testing, hormone balance, gut health, cortisol levels, genetics, vitamin and mineral status, heavy metal load, and many more.

I can recommend genetic testing through genetic specialists if this is an area of interest. Genetic testing can be a useful way of personalising a plan based on your unique genetic blueprint.

It can be quite a daunting idea to know too much about your genes, and for that reason I have chosen to work with genetics companies who only provide data about genetics that can be influenced by choices and modifications to your lifestyle.
