This is the quickest, easiest, and healthiest way to make jam!

Chia jam has been around for a long time as a healthy sugar free version of that old family favourite the jar of jam! I am not sure where the idea originated from, but whoever came up with it was genius!

The chia seeds are a good source of omega 3, and much healthier than the pectin that is used to make traditional jam!

If my version of chia jam is not sweet enough for you then just add slightly more honey. It is all about personal tastes and preferences. If you want a vegan jam then use maple syrup instead.

Chia Jam can be made with any fruit, so experiment with whatever is in season. Plums need to cook for longer, and raspberries and strawberries shorter. Blackberries are my favourites though. (and beautifully free and abundant in August/ September!)

Because the jam is not packed full of preservatives and sugar then it will need eating within a couple of weeks.


  • 2 cups of blackberries (or any other fruit of your choice)

  • Juice of a lemon

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds

  • 1 dessert spoon raw honey


  1. Put the blackberries in a pan with the juice of a lemon and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring a few times until the fruit has broken down

  2. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the chia seeds

  3. Stir in the honey

  4. Taste and adjust sweetness if you need to.
