Golden Tea with cardamom
Updated: Feb 22, 2019
Golden tea, or golden milk is a great way to get curcumin into your diet. Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric, renowned for multiple health benefits including its anti-inflammatory properties. You can read more about some the many benefits of curcumin in my post about golden paste. If you first make a batch of golden paste you will be making the curcumin more bioavailable (and improving the flavour). Once you have a batch of this in the fridge you can quickly and easily make golden tea. I actually find it helps me sleep better too! Golden PasteThe turmeric tea tastes really delicious - not how I expected it to taste. Turmeric powder can be quite bitter, but the process of heating it when you make golden paste makes it taste less bitter.
Ingredients
1 cup of coconut milk (or almond milk, or milk of your choice)
One teaspoon golden paste Recipe here
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Seeds of one cardamom pod crushed
Raw honey to taste (I usually have one teaspoon)
Directions
Bring a cup of coconut milk to a simmer.
Stir in one teaspoon of golden paste.
Add quarter of a teaspoon of cinnamon
Crush and add the seeds of one cardamom pod
Simmer for a couple of minutes, then remove from the heat.
Add the raw honey according to your taste
Alternatives:
Sometimes I vary the drink and instead of cardamom I add raw ginger. My favourite is definitely the cardamom version though. I love the taste of cardamom! I also sometimes add a bit of vanilla extract or almond extract. Experiment to find your favourite version of the drink.
