Orange inflammation fighter smoothie

Updated: Feb 25, 2019

Orange, carrot, pepper and turmeric smoothie

This smoothie is a beautiful vibrant orange colour. A great source of vitamin C, and beta carotene.

Turmeric seemed an obvious choice to continue with the colour. The curcumin in turmeric has so many health benefits. It is great for fighting inflammation. In order to increase the bioavailability of the curcumin I have added coconut oil and black pepper to the smoothie. Studies have shown that adding fat and black pepper can increase the bioavailability of curcumin by 1000 times. Black pepper contains piperin, which helps stimulate hydrochloric acid in the stomach

  • 2 oranges, flesh included, pips removed

  • Half a yellow or orange pepper

  • 1 carrot

  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric

  • 1/4 teaspoon coconut oil

  • A pinch of black pepper

  • Filtered water

  1. Trim the peel off the oranges

  2. Cut the orange in half and carefully remove seeds

  3. Cut yellow pepper in half and remove seeds

  4. Peel and chop one carrot

  5. Add the above ingredients to a nutribullet with the coconut oil, turmeric, and black pepper

  6. Add water to just below the level of the ingredients in the nutribullet

  7. Whizz together in the nutribullet and serve
